ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited Calibration Services

Accreditation & Certification

SIMCO provides accredited calibration services supported by ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540.1, and ISO 9001 quality standards, helping organizations maintain traceable documentation, measurement confidence, and audit-ready calibration programs.

All of SIMCO’s commercial laboratories maintain accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540.1 standards. These standards outline the technical requirements necessary for:

1. ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited Calibration:

ISO/IEC 17025 is the primary international standard for calibration laboratory competence. It helps demonstrate that calibration work is performed using qualified personnel, validated methods, appropriate equipment, measurement traceability, and documented quality controls.

Key areas include:

  • Technical competence of laboratory personnel
  • Valid calibration methods and controlled procedures
  • Measurement traceability and uncertainty practices
  • Quality system controls, internal audits, and corrective actions
  • Impartiality and confidentiality in laboratory activities

2. ANSI/NCSL Z540.1 Calibration Support:

ANSI/NCSL Z540.1 supports calibration system requirements for measuring and test equipment. It is commonly used by organizations that need documented calibration controls, traceability, and defined requirements for equipment performance.

Key areas include:

  • Calibration of measuring and test equipment to defined requirements
  • Traceability of measurements to the International System of Units (SI)
  • Support for documented calibration programs
  • Alignment with quality and compliance expectations in regulated environments
  • Alignment to the National Measurement System

3. ISO 9001 Compliance

SIMCO’s quality management system governing its calibration, repair, and testing services meets the applicable quality management requirements of ISO 9001. Calibration and testing activities are performed within SIMCO’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory quality management system where applicable.

SIMCO’s third-party accreditations provide assurance that SIMCO consistently meets both quality management and technical precision standards required for trusted calibration services.

Frequently Asked Questions

ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration means the calibration was performed by a laboratory that has been independently assessed and found technically competent to perform the applicable calibration within its Scope of Accreditation. Accreditation applies only to the specific capabilities listed on the laboratory’s Scope of Accreditation.

No. Measurement traceability links measurement results to the International System of Units (SI), typically through NIST or another recognized National Metrology Institute (NMI). ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation independently demonstrates a laboratory’s technical competence in addition to providing measurement traceability.

ANSI/NCSL Z540.1 is a U.S. standard that establishes requirements for calibration systems, including measurement traceability, equipment control, documentation, and calibration management. It is commonly specified in aerospace, defense, and government contracts.

Accredited calibration is often required by contracts, customer specifications, regulations, or quality system requirements. Even when it is not required, many organizations choose accredited calibration because it provides independent verification of laboratory competence.

A calibration certificate documents the measurements obtained during calibration and may include measurement results, uncertainty, traceability information, calibration standards, environmental conditions, and as-found/as-left data. Accredited certificates also include information required by ISO/IEC 17025 and the laboratory’s accreditation body.

A Statement of Conformity is a determination of whether the measurement results meet specified acceptance limits or requirements, commonly reported as a pass/fail determination. When requested, the laboratory applies a documented decision rule when making the conformity assessment.

A Scope of Accreditation is the official document issued by an accreditation body that identifies the specific calibration capabilities for which a laboratory has been accredited. It allows customers to verify that a requested calibration falls within the laboratory’s accredited capabilities.

SIMCO’s Scope of Calibration Capabilities is available online and can be reviewed by parameter, range, instrument type, or measurement discipline. If you are unsure which capability applies to your equipment, submit your instrument list through the Request a Quote form and SIMCO can help confirm your calibration options.

Yes. SIMCO offers both onsite and in-lab accredited calibration where accreditation is available for the required measurement discipline and service location.

Submit your instrument information through our Request a Quote form or contact a SIMCO representative. Be sure to identify any requirements for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, Statements of Conformity, decision rules, or other contractual or customer-specific requirements.
